Care Packages, Part 1
I've officially reached an age-range where my health and those around me is more fragile. Today, a close friend and former roommate began chemo. This is my second girlfriend struck by cancer.
I am thrilled to report the first friend is doing excellent and cancer-free after a year plus. This is a constant celebration of good heath. Throughout her treatment, which was months long, painful at times and emotional, I was in a position, like many, wanting to help, but not sure how. I put much thought into my monthly drop-offs and learned you can't assume the standard gifts are the right match. For instance, my first friend expressed the flower deliveries piling up felt like a funeral in her home. And then once her chemo began, she was sensitive to smells, so flowers again and certain home-cooked meals were not well-received.
Today, my thoughts are with my other friend. She has 6-7 chemo sessions at the Mayo clinic ahead of her, as well as the holidays and the daily life of her family of 5. It's a lot, so any amount I can do, I want to give.
I just returned from the first of many deliveries for her. I decided I will share my gift-giving process with my followers. This is meant to be helpful to those that may find themselves in this position. Whether it's cancer or some other life-struggling situation our loved ones may be in, it's part of life, it happens and it's our nature to help.
So, my first drop-off consisted of healthy foods I know she's been eating and ones full of protection and powerful antioxidants - spinach, Pom juice, apples, avacados, brocolli sprouts. A bad celebrity magazine, which makes anyone feel better about themselves. The "Clean Food" cookbook, finding rich nutrients in our local food sources. Think Gum & Miracle Noodles for brain power and fun in the kitchen. All in a reusable and colorful bag.
So here's to my friend today for the first step into a full and healthy future. My love and little gifts will be in step with her all the way.

Feel-Good Giving
I'm proud to announce a new Radar gift offer, Good Deed Gifts.
Good Deed Gifts puts a nice touch on giving a gift of practicality. Whether it be for parents that "have everything" or who may not be able to keep up with the basic responsibilities, such as house cleaning, yard work and/or garden care. Or, do you know of a bride and groom who thrive on practicality? For these practical types, Good Deed Gifts make a wonderful wedding, shower or house-warming gift.
Good Deed Gifts is also an excellent way to help a family, neighbor or friend who may be in a medical situation that pulls the individual or family away from basic home needs for several days, even months. We want to help these people, but often don't know how. Good Deed Gifts allows you, a group of friends, neighbors or family members to give together a basic needs gift.
I have partnered with two such local services, Alison's Cleaning and Landscape Love. Two services our family uses and believes in. Alison, Nan and Steele are thrilled to be a part of the Good Deed Gifts program.
Radar will also be donating a portion of the Good Deed Gifts to an organization of your choice that may be meaningful to the gift recipient.
Here is the pricing structure:
Alison's Cleaning:
$45 = 1 hour
$80 = 2 hours
$115 = 3 hours
Landscape Love:
$70 = 1 hour
$130 = 2 hours
$190 = 3 hours
Interested in giving a Good Deed Gift? This is how it works:
1) Email Radar, Jen@radar-msp.com, with your:
- service type
- amount of hours
- who the gift is for
- who the gift is from
- what organization if any you would like a portion of the gift to go to
- when you need the Good Deed Gift Certificate
2) Radar will send a PayPal request for payment
3) Once payment is received, the Good Deed Gifts Certification will be printed, wrapped in a box and ready for either pick-up in Mpls, or delivered/mailed for an additional fee, depending on location.
Radar's goal is to rapidly expand the Good Deed Gifts service offerings, such as meal delivery and errand-running. If you have a service or know of a service that would be a good fit for this program, please email Radar, jen@radar-msp.com
