Two new Comforts in S Mpls

There's a couple spots, one not-so-new and one very new in S Mpls. The opening of any local business right now makes this local lover skip with joy.

Broder's Pasta Bar has always been a solid choice and a neighborhood fan favorite. (We secretly wish we owned this gem that easily has a waiting list Monday nights by 5). Anyway, they expanded their offerings this summer with their outdoor Antipasto Bar. We've been driving by for weeks attempting to try this wise addition. This past Saturday, the antipasto bar had two stools and we practically ran and jumped on them.

The Chef, Laurel, came from the Broder's deli across the street. She was at the helm of the outdoor grill, and very happy about it. We had her order for us, and she proceeded to create in seconds - Blistered Shishito Peppers, Garlic Bruschetta, Calamari alla Griglia, Grilled Italian Sausage with Grape Balsalmic Reduction. Tim and I watched with jealous joy her instant, simple concoctions. Then she highly encouraged the Grilled Peaches, Marscapone and Toasted Almonds for dessert. All was outstanding, fresh, with an appropriate burn.

These last few summer nights have been ideal, with weather reminding me of CA Wine Country. I highly recommend going to Broders Antipasto Bar, before you know what's going to be covering that lovely patio, the "s" word!

The other new spot in S Mpls is a much needed neighborhood bar, Kings Wine Bar. Located at 45th and Grand, across from Ena and smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood. Kings reminded me of the vibe you get in NE Mpls, a clientele of all kinds, old to young, representing the homes walking distance away. I like that.

We had the Marsalas Meatballs on their small bites menu, we liked them so much, we ordered them again. The menu is creative, comforting. The Chef, Peter Maccaroni, came from the Sample Room and owners, Molly Barnes and Samantha Loesch are sisters. Decor is simple, modern with a warm palate. There is a lounge-like space that is quite small, but is a softer choice for those that want to hang in comfort.

After our meatballs, we tried the Asparagus in Balsalmic Reduction, excellent. And from looking and hearing the reactions of our bar neighbors, I think it's safe to say you can't really go wrong with the food offerings. I do think the staff needs a bit more time to settle in and get in a grove. I wish Kings well, and will be back!

Feel-Good Giving

I'm proud to announce a new Radar gift offer, Good Deed Gifts.

Good Deed Gifts puts a nice touch on giving a gift of practicality. Whether it be for parents that "have everything" or who may not be able to keep up with the basic responsibilities, such as house cleaning, yard work and/or garden care. Or, do you know of a bride and groom who thrive on practicality? For these practical types, Good Deed Gifts make a wonderful wedding, shower or house-warming gift.

Good Deed Gifts is also an excellent way to help a family, neighbor or friend who may be in a medical situation that pulls the individual or family away from basic home needs for several days, even months. We want to help these people, but often don't know how. Good Deed Gifts allows you, a group of friends, neighbors or family members to give together a basic needs gift.

I have partnered with two such local services, Alison's Cleaning and Landscape Love. Two services our family uses and believes in. Alison, Nan and Steele are thrilled to be a part of the Good Deed Gifts program.

Radar will also be donating a portion of the Good Deed Gifts to an organization of your choice that may be meaningful to the gift recipient.

Here is the pricing structure:

Alison's Cleaning:
$45 = 1 hour
$80 = 2 hours
$115 = 3 hours

Landscape Love:
$70 = 1 hour
$130 = 2 hours
$190 = 3 hours

Interested in giving a Good Deed Gift? This is how it works:

1) Email Radar, Jen@radar-msp.com, with your:
- service type
- amount of hours
- who the gift is for
- who the gift is from
- what organization if any you would like a portion of the gift to go to
- when you need the Good Deed Gift Certificate

2) Radar will send a PayPal request for payment

3) Once payment is received, the Good Deed Gifts Certification will be printed, wrapped in a box and ready for either pick-up in Mpls, or delivered/mailed for an additional fee, depending on location.

Radar's goal is to rapidly expand the Good Deed Gifts service offerings, such as meal delivery and errand-running. If you have a service or know of a service that would be a good fit for this program, please email Radar, jen@radar-msp.com

Radar, along with Alison's Cleaning and Landscape Love look forward to being of service.

**MEAL DELIVERY SERVICE COMING SOON!**

Parents, here's a nice Sunday in St Paul

If it's that point of the summer where you can't think of one more activity for the kids, here's one that's part education and fun:

Tomorrow, Sun., Aug. 9 — Walk St. Paul’s riverfront with a ranger and learn all about the wildlife, ecology, and history of this Mississippi River area. Meet at the Mississippi River Visitor Center, just inside the Science Museum of Minnesota for the 1:30-3:30 p.m. walk. For more info, call 651-293-0200.

Before or after, Radar recommends grabbing some food while sitting on a river boat, literally, River Boat Grill. Enjoy the view of the great Mississip' and of downtown St Paul.

If you go, send me your photos, I'd love to see and share!
