Sugar Sugar is Sweet!

Sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
Honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girls
And you got me wanting you

My sweet tooth has been around, oh, since the beginning, my cavities are proof of my dying love for it. A true story, when I was a kid, I wanted to own Abdullah's Candies, it was my favorite place to go and spend my hard earned ironing-shirts-money.

Enough about me. I am beyond thrilled that new store, Sugar Sugar has opened! It's all candy!!!! Beautiful candy. Candy mustaches, candy perfume, bulk candy, chocolate candy shavings for your food or coffee, hard candy, basic candy, fancy candy. Candy. What gets my sweet tooth about Sugar Sugar is the beautiful packaging of the charmers. Making the gift of candy, a slam dunk.

What's also sweet about Sugar Sugar, for those who love graphics, is that the logo was done by Elvis Swift. The doodling expert.

My personal favorite line at Sugar Sugar, is Barcelona-based, Papabubble. So stunning, their candy rings were worn in one of New York fashion weeks runway show. Check out how it's made before it arrives on the shelf.

So whatever your sweet tooth screams for, head to Sugar Sugar and get your sugar high on!

Guild, Pop & Shop

A holiday pop-up store has opened on Excelsior and Grand, Guild. During November and December pop yourself over there, it's the "ABC Carpet & Home" of the Twin Cities, as mentioned by one of the 22 creative minds behind this concept. But without the ABC prices.

These 22 minds consist of locals with passions in art, fashion, jewelry and home furnishings from past eras to present. The talent of all these creative minds really shows in the beautifully thought-out store displays - all items intermix perfectly with each other.

One of Guild's shinning stars in my mind is kids clothing from NYC-based Kico. I was told this particular line is only available at Barney's, but the Kico connection loved the pop-up store concept of Guild, so whalaa, here it is.

Smart duds for your little dudes...

Cream cardigan with tulle. Lovely for a little lady.

Sparkling tafitta polka-dot dress...

So pop yourself into Guild! And if we all do, the temporary pop-up Guild, might just be around for the long haul! Props to that!

Easy on the Eyes

So this post too reflects my age, not trying to bring this up over and over, but I was at the eye doctor a couple weeks ago and the "readers" subject came up. "So are you at a computer a lot?" "Do you seem tired in the afternoons?" Yes. And. Yes.

So it was time for me to get readers. And like all my other accessories, I wanted my readers to be fashionable. And like most of my purchases, I check out all options. Target optical just didn't do it for me. I found hip and cool options at Martin Patrick 3, I noticed the brand was EyeBobs and was local. What?! Cool, hip readers and from a local company, score! So I went online to check them out and to see what stores carry the cuties. I swung into many of the local stores and wasn't finding the style that worked for my mini melon.

So online I went, ordered the "Butch" style at 5:00 pm on Wed, and by Thurs they were in my mailbox. I opened the box and packaged all cute and stuff were my "helpers", my readers, that now sit beside me at my desk. End up on my face by 2:00. They also hang in my purse, although I have yet to pull them out in public, I practically know every food and wine menu in the city anyway. But they are there when my eyes need them. And because I do love the little helpers, it makes it easier to accept that my eyes have "aged".

If your peepers need some assistance, make the move in style and check out EyeBobs, online or in store.

The cloth all full of attitude with the tagline: "eyewear for the irreverent and slightly jaded"

Care Packages, Part 1

I've officially reached an age-range where my health and those around me is more fragile. Today, a close friend and former roommate began chemo. This is my second girlfriend struck by cancer.

I am thrilled to report the first friend is doing excellent and cancer-free after a year plus. This is a constant celebration of good heath. Throughout her treatment, which was months long, painful at times and emotional, I was in a position, like many, wanting to help, but not sure how. I put much thought into my monthly drop-offs and learned you can't assume the standard gifts are the right match. For instance, my first friend expressed the flower deliveries piling up felt like a funeral in her home. And then once her chemo began, she was sensitive to smells, so flowers again and certain home-cooked meals were not well-received.

Today, my thoughts are with my other friend. She has 6-7 chemo sessions at the Mayo clinic ahead of her, as well as the holidays and the daily life of her family of 5. It's a lot, so any amount I can do, I want to give.

I just returned from the first of many deliveries for her. I decided I will share my gift-giving process with my followers. This is meant to be helpful to those that may find themselves in this position. Whether it's cancer or some other life-struggling situation our loved ones may be in, it's part of life, it happens and it's our nature to help.

So, my first drop-off consisted of healthy foods I know she's been eating and ones full of protection and powerful antioxidants - spinach, Pom juice, apples, avacados, brocolli sprouts. A bad celebrity magazine, which makes anyone feel better about themselves. The "Clean Food" cookbook, finding rich nutrients in our local food sources. Think Gum & Miracle Noodles for brain power and fun in the kitchen. All in a reusable and colorful bag.

So here's to my friend today for the first step into a full and healthy future. My love and little gifts will be in step with her all the way.
